Basketball Clinics Can Help Kids Master the Complexities of the Game



Basketball is not only great physical exercise, it is great for your brain! Kids who play basketball develop the ability to assess a situation and react quickly as they learn game strategy and how to execute a play. Clinics can help children build on these fundamental skills so they are ready come game time.

One on One After School Hoops (Ages 6-12)
8 sessions, $100 at various locations
Experienced and positive One on One instructors will take kids through exercises and drills that build on basic player skills. Participants will also learn important aspects of basketball including the value of hard work, respect for authority and how to function as one part of a team.

Coach Rick Basketball (Ages 8-10)
10 sessions, $130 at Damascus Community Recreation Center
Boys and girls of all abilities will benefit from this clinic. Each one-hour class is broken up into two, 30-minute sessions. In the first half, participants work on a specific component with drills and activities. In the second half, kids will have the chance to apply what they just learned in real game scenarios.

MD Sports Hoop Start Clinic (Grades K-5)
6 sessions, $90 at various locations
Kids will learn the basics of how the game of basketball is played through drills and controlled scrimmages. The goal is to create a fun, safe, and educational environment that teaches more than basketball. Participants will learn life skills, too, including respect, commitment and teamwork.

Player Development Program (Ages 6-8 or 8-10)
6 sessions, $125 at White Oak Community Recreation Center
Progressive skills clinics are broken up by age and ability to ensure kids are participating at the proper level. Kids are motivated to master certain skills and receive personal evaluations as they progress.
