What’s Happening Around the County




Our Community Recreation Centers have some of their own, unique events planned for the month of November. Browse the list below and you are sure to find something nearby.

Bauer Drive Community Recreation Center in Rockville is still accepting vendor applications for their annual Holiday Craft Show held in December. Interested craft vendors should call 240-777-6922 or email Winston.taylor@montgomerycountymd.gov to apply.

Clara Barton Community Recreation Center in Cabin John is having a potluck for Seniors on November 13 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. Please contact the center to let them know what you are bringing, 240-777-4910.

East County Community Recreation Center in Silver Spring is hosting a special forum for student athletes who want to play in college on Sunday, November 24 from 1:30 – 4:30 pm. This is a valuable forum for students and their parents to learn about NCAA eligibility requirements, character and academic expectations, the difference between Divisions I, II and III, and what it takes to receive and maintain scholarships. Coaches and administrators from various collegiate programs will be on site. For more information call 240-777-8090 or register through RecWeb for course 369829.

Jane E. Lawton Community Recreation Center in Chevy Chase is hosting a Harvest Festival on November 9 from 12:00 – 3:00 pm. Come and join in the fun with carnival games, arts and crafts, a moon bounce, and light refreshments.

Long Branch Community Recreation Center in Silver Spring is hosting three unique events in November!
November 1 is Family Karaoke Night at 7:00 pm
November 8 is the Club Rec Fashion Show at 7:00 pm
November 15 is the Winter Carnival with music, arts and crafts, and lots more for the whole family starting at 7:00 pm.

Longwood Community Recreation Center in Brookeville is celebrating Spirit Night for Club Rec members and guests on November 15 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Wear your favorite team jersey, enjoy a movie, snack bar, and relax with friends. Club Rec members and guests in grades 3-5 are welcome! There is a $5 fee for guests.

Marilyn J. Praisner Community RecreationCenter in Burtonsville has an after school program kicking off Friday, November 1st with a “Turkey’s Point of View” theme. Kids in grades K-5 will enjoy turkey basketball, Thanksgiving crafts, air hockey and foosball, and will have the chance to win turkeys and pies! A light dinner will be served. Fee is $5 per child and you can register your child in advance with course 369529 or pay at the door. Parents can drop the kids off.

Potomac Community Recreation Center’s Club Friday will have a Halloween theme After-Hours party on November 1st. Students in grades 3-6 can enjoy the fun. Call 240-777-6960 for more information.

Ross Boddy Community Recreation Center in Sandy Spring is hosting their annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on Sunday, November 3 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.  Participants will eat hearty seasonal soups, fresh breads and desserts then shop for beautiful bowls that have been hand crafted onsite in the Ross Boddy potter’s studio! The Sherwood High School Jazz Combo will entertain guests. In addition, there will be raffle tickets and prizes, and more pottery for purchase, all to raise money to help enhance the holidays for needy local families. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under and can be purchased at the community center.
