County Senior Centers Are Bursting With Activities



Do you have an aging parent or know of a local senior that could benefit from getting out of the house and getting involved? Print this article and share it with them! We have a huge variety of activities for seniors at locations across the County. There is always something going on nearby and many are FREE!

Damascus Senior Center
·         Chef Sue’s Holiday Luncheon is scheduled for November 13th at 12:00 (noon). Enjoy your favorite holiday recipes and lively conversation. Fee of $7 for participants ages 55-59 and those over 60 can donate what they can.
·         Christina Drapkin and Trio will perform their Holiday Cheer and Memories set on November 13 at 1:00 pm. (Free)
·         Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors on November 21 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. (Fee $5)

White Oak Senior Center
·         Healthy Heart Aerobics is offered Fridays from 1:30 – 2:30 pm and offers a low impact workout to strengthen heart and lungs, help you maintain weight, and boost your energy.
·         Vegan Living discussion happens the 2nd Thursday of the month from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Learn about vegan foods, nutrition, and benefits of a vegan diet. (Fee is $5)

Long Branch Senior Center
·         Learn Spanish! We offer classes three days a week for FREE with Beginners on Wednesdays at 11:00 am, Conversation level speakers on Mondays at 12:00 pm, and Advanced on Fridays at 12:00 pm.
·         Computer Tutoring takes place Wednesdays from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and can help you learn how to set up email, internet basics, word processing, and playing games on the computer.

Schweinhaut Senior Center
·         Upcoming movies include My House in Umbria on November 4 at 1:00 pm and Educating Rita on November 18 at 1:00 pm
·         Pool/Billiard League is Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 am (Free)
·         Senior Fit is a fitness program designed for seniors and sponsored by Holy Cross Hospital and Kaiser Permanente. Classes are held Mon/Wed at 8:30 am and 9:30 am, Tues/Thurs at 9:00 am and Saturdays at 9:30 am. Call 301-754-7895 for a permission slip to be completed by your physician.

Holiday Park Senior Center
·         Dance Club Friday will be held November 22 from 1:15 – 3:15 pm and will feature music by Gina DiSimone and the Moaners! (fee $5 at the door or $3 to members)
·         The White House Art Collection art history discussion will take place on November 7
·         Fitness Classes include Zumba, Tai Chi, Bone Builders, Stability Ball, Line Dancing and more! Call 240-777-4999 for a complete schedule of fitness and dance classes or visit http://www.holidaypark.us/
