County Breaks Ground for the New Scotland Neighborhood Community Center

Scotland Community learning about the new community center

Wednesday, March 27th was a day for celebrating in the small Potomac community of 100 townhomes known as Scotland.  Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and Montgomery County Recreation Director Gabe Albornoz were on hand for the groundbreaking of the new Neighborhood Recreation Center that will serve the Scotland community.

Betsy Thompson, President of the Scotland Homeowners Association, became emotional when it was her turn to speak. She explained that Ike Leggett had told her it would be ready in 2014 and all she could say was, “I’ll take your word for it.”

In addition to local community leaders, a group of advocates from Action in Montgomery (AIM) were on hand for the ceremony and several children from the neighborhood were invited to participate as well.
