Special Summer Events Just for Seniors



This summer The Guide is filled with classes and activities designed especially for area seniors age 55+. No matter where you live in Montgomery County, there is either a senior center or Community Recreation Center with senior programming nearby. Here are some June highlights that we hope will entice you to join us!

Damascus Senior Center Cookout (June 7, 12:00 noon)
Kick off the start of summer with a cookout! For just $7.00 you can enjoy a full menu prepared by our own Chef Sue. Call 240-777-6995 for reservations and details.

Father’s Day Luncheon at Potomac Community Recreation Center (June 14, 11:30 am)
Join us to celebrate the fathers in our lives and all they do for us. This buffet luncheon will include music and door prizes. Space is limited and a maximum of three tickets will be sold to a single person. Cost TBD Call 240-777-6960 for details.

White Oak Community Recreation Center  -- Celebrate their One-Year Anniversary! (June 14, 1:00-5:00 pm)
Join the White Oak community to celebrate one year of dance, fitness, arts, pottery and senior programs. We’ll supply the games, food, and entertainment. You bring the family and be ready to have fun!

Posture 101 Discussion at Praisner Community Recreation Center (June 18, 11:00 am)
It’s not too late! Learn what you can do to improve your posture including exercises that will help with alignment, posture and can improve your breathing and circulation.

Retro-Rockets Dance Band at Schweinhaut Senior Center (June 24, 1:00 pm)
The Retro-Rockets will excite you as they play some of your favorites from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s! Feel free to get up and dance, sing along, or just listen and sway. Whatever you do, you are sure to leave with a smile.

Walking Wednesdays and Tennis at Long Branch Senior Center (Wednesdays, 10:00 – 11:30 am)
Together we walk the 1/3 mile paved path that winds around the field behind the center. We provide tennis rackets and balls to play on the courts at the far end of the loop. Those who want to walk indoors can walk the perimeter of the gym.
