First Ever Employee Excellence Awards
On Monday, May 5, 2014, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett presented
the first Montgomery County Recreation Employee Excellence Awards, on behalf of
the Countywide Recreation Advisory Board, to three of our most deserving
employees, Morris Buster, Marco D’Ottavi, and Trish Gill. The presentation took place at the White Oak
Community Recreation Center.
First, a little background. The
Countywide Recreation Advisory Board expressed an interest in recognizing our
hardworking staff. Each Montgomery
County Recreation manager was asked to make recommendations to the Board in the
following categories: Fulltime staff,
Seasonal staff and Volunteer. A
sub-committee of the Board then reviewed the recommendations and forwarded
three to the full Board for a vote.
The plaques read as follows:
Morris Buster began his career over 30 years ago with Montgomery County Recreation
as a seasonal staff, followed by his service as a Recreation Coordinator at
Good Hope Community Center, and now is the Director of the Long Branch
Community Recreation Center. Long Branch
serves the most diverse community within the County. Morris volunteers to help at other centers
and covers for other Center Directors when they are on leave. He is a liaison for the Department in the
Long Branch community. Morris shows
everyone that approaching his work with serenity and professionalism, while
working in a collaborative manner, is the best way to achieve teamwork.
Marco D’Ottavi is a seasonal staff person who coordinates all of the
volunteers and mainstreaming companions for the Therapeutic Recreation Team, as
well as Montgomery County Recreation. He
spends many hours on the phone with parents and participants, listens to their needs
and then matches them with a volunteer companion for a successful recreation
experience. Marco does outreach to
schools and youth groups to recruit volunteers into this program. Marco puts in long hours beyond the workday,
and always has a smile on his face and is willing to go the extra mile to
accommodate the needs of our participants.
Trish Gill is an amazing employee who always gives 120 percent and rarely
says no to any request for assistance.
Trish is called upon by Montgomery County Recreation staff, the County
Executive’s Office, Police, Fire and Rescue, Montgomery Parks, the Public
Information Office, the Regional Government Centers, and more, to provide
assistance with events. In addition,
Trish coordinates 300+ youth basketball teams, adult softball teams, senior
softball teams, the Miracle League programs for individuals with disabilities,
and all of the Montgomery County Recreation’s Community Use of Public
Facilities. Montgomery County Recreation
is indeed lucky to have such a dedicated and hardworking employee.
Congratulations Trish, Morris and Marco!
