5 Healthy Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day

1. Ride bikes
There is something about going for a bike ride that simply brings people together. You can’t see the other person’s face, you can’t really talk, but you are sharing the experience of a beautiful bike ride together. To ensure you focus on romance and not cars, check out the paved bike paths around two of our indoor swim centers. The Germantown Indoor Swim Center has a terrific network of paths that circle the fields of the SoccerPlex. In addition, the Martin Luther King Jr. Swim Center is located within another network of paved pathways that are great for a quiet ride.

2. Go for a walk or hike
Sticking with the outdoors theme, there are lots of beautiful trails to explore in and around Montgomery County. Some take you around lakes and ponds, while others take you to a wonderful view. Whatever type of trail you choose, bring a picnic and plenty of water to show your valentine how much you care.

3. Take ballroom dancing classes
The romance of traditional ballroom dance with its subtle gestures and graceful movements will bring any couple closer together. However, the process of learning something new together will do so much more! When we work together with someone and reach a goal, we feel closer to that person – even complete strangers. Imagine what it can do for couples that already have a history together!  We offer a large selection of ballroom dance classes for beginners to more advance level dancers. See pages 39 and 40 in The Guide for a complete listing of classes and locations.

4. Visit the ‘tropics’ and swim at the indoor pool
Maybe you can’t afford that second honeymoon, but you can still get that tropical feeling when you step inside the Germantown Indoor Swim Center. Complete with palm trees, waterfalls, and temperatures that are warm and toasty all winter long, this particular indoor pool has 2 hot tubs and 2 winding water slides that all together will give any couple that feeling again of being young, and in love.

5. Sign up for a cooking class
“Your words are my food, your breath my wine. You are everything to me.” ~ Sarah Bernhardt
If you have never cooked with your love, you are truly missing out on a very romantic experience. Learning to prepare and cook a delicious meal gives both of you a sense of accomplishment and a greater appreciation for what you are about to eat. When we cook together we have to learn about give and take, about trusting one another, and we learn to work as a team. Plus, at the end of the class, we enjoy an amazing meal! Cooking classes can be found on pages 44 and 45 of The Guide.
